Jenny Creasey,
22, doesn't like taking things slowly. Since graduating this July from De Montfort University, Jenny,
from Leicester, has been going from strength to strength.
Says Jenny, "I graduated with a degree in Design Crafts from De Montfort University in Leicester earlier this year
and have been selling my handmade porcelain vessels with great success. So far they've proved really very popular.
People like to have something unique in their home and they make really special presents.
I know a few people have bought them as Christmas presents already and I am really hoping to see an
increase in sales as the festive season approaches."
Upon leaving University, Jenny went straight into setting up her own business. "It was quite a daunting prospect at
first, but so far it's been great – and very exciting! I won a placement on the 'Enterprise Inc' program which helps
ex-students set up their own business. They've been really supportive," adds Jenny.
Jenny will also benefit from being an Artist in Residence at De Montfort University, which will enable her to use
their excellent facilities as well as giving her a dedicated studio space. Competition for the residency was tough
and Jenny won one of only four places available.
Over and above her business start-up success, Jenny has already exhibited in London at the prestigious 'New Designers'
exhibition and in the East Midlands. Says Jenny, "I've had two shows in September and one in October.
I've got one more to go this month, another two in November, and another one in December, so it's been busy!"
Jenny will be at Arts Booter Artists Market at the Curve theatre in Leicester on Sunday 25th October, Christmas
Craft Fair at Houghton on the Hill on Saturday 7th November and Surface Gallery's Christmas Crafts Market in
Nottingham on the 28th and 29th November. Jenny's work will also be on display as part of the 'Unique' exhibition
in Milton Keynes from 5th December to 9th January 2010.
"With the help of Enterprise Inc and my residency I want to expand and develop my product range, looking at
lighting possibilities and working on larger scale pieces. The help and support I have received so far has
enabled me to 'kick-start; my business and I am really excited about taking the business forward."
