'Icecream' - a stylish September give-away with Something Wonderful!
And into September! Vainly trying to ignore the signs of Christmas erupting in the high street, we've got a lovely
give-away this month with a summery flavour (in name at least). So forget about the jingle bells for a month or
two and hold on to the sunshine!
Our sponsor this month is the lovely Kim at Something Wonderful Design, who is donating a rather fabulous limited
edition linocut - pictured here, which she'll tell you all about shortly.
The rules are the same as usual - to enter, visit Kim's links (at the end of the post) and come back
to leave a comment telling us which of her pieces is your favourite. Entries are accepted at our
discretion and the winner will be chosen at random. The giveaway will close at midnight
on Friday 30th September 2011.
Meet Kim from Something Wonderful Design
Something Wonderful Design: modern design, using traditional techniques.
Printmaking is a fantastic way of working - as the mother of four little children I am used to unexpected results,
and lots of mess! I am hugely influenced by modern design, but love old-fashioned techniques such
as linoprinting and letterpress - I aim to combine the two in my work.
I make posters, canvases, cards, tags and bunting, and have recently been rediscovering the joys of the
reduction linoprint technique. My giveaway is an example of this method: following an icecream-filled holiday
in St Ives, Cornwall, I created a three colour print of two 99s!
I cut the linoblock away and printed the base layer in yellow; I then carved further detail and printed over
the yellow in hot pink, then cut away the final design and printed again in blue, to create the finished
poster. It is part of a limited run of just 20 and each print is signed and editioned. It will be
supplied in a white mount, measuring 10 x 12'. I hope the winner loves it as much as I do!
